Scold Privately, Praise Publicly — Part One
✅DO YOU WORK WITH A TEAM?
If so, here’s a takeaway that I learned from one of the teams I work with..
To criticize privately and praise publicly..
Here I break it down into two parts. Article I is Scolding Privately.
No one likes to be embarrassed..
No one likes to feel stupid or called out… When working with other people I really encourage you to give feedback in a private setting..
In a one to one conversation or even a direct phone call..
And not in a public setting where other people are present.. and can see everything.
You could do this…
On the side of an event, in a one to one conversation.
Behind closed doors.
Away from other people.
I’ve experienced this on both ends.. And I’ve felt embarrassed when a Team Manager challenges me in front of the group during the morning meeting
And I trusted and respected him less after that.
I’ve gotten feedback from a Leader on the side, and I appreciated him more because I didn’t want the whole team to know about my mistake or how I am really slow when bussing tables (I used to work in nightclubs)..
There’s power in this takeaway:
Scold Privately, Praise Publicly.
